When an idealistic doctor discovers that his town’s prized public baths are poisoning the very people they’re meant to heal, he risks everything to expose the truth. Only to find himself at war with the politicians, press, and neighbors he thought were on his side.

CASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:

  • DR. THOMAS STOCKMANN (40s Male) Medical Director of the Baths. Brilliant, passionate, restless, and deeply idealistic. A man intoxicated by truth and moral clarity—sometimes to his own detriment. Charismatic, funny, impulsive, and increasingly dangerous to the status quo.

  • PETRA STOCKMANN (Early 20s Female) Thomas’s daughter, a schoolteacher. Bright, sharp-witted, and fiercely independent, with a rebellious streak simmering beneath the surface. Deeply aligned with her father’s ideals, though perhaps more clear-eyed about the world around her.

  • PETER STOCKMANN (40s–50s Male) Thomas’s older brother and the town’s mayor. Precise, disciplined, politically calculating. Believes order, stability, and economic survival matter more than abstract ideals. A master at maintaining control.

  • HOVSTAD (30s Male, trans/non-binary) Editor of The People’s Messenger. Attractive, intelligent, and politically ambitious. Presents himself as a champion of progressive causes, though his convictions shift quickly when power and public opinion are at stake.

  • BILLING (20s Male, Female or non-binary) A young journalist at the paper. Charming, eager, and opportunistic. Enjoys the performance of radical politics more than the sacrifice real conviction requires.

  • ASLAKSEN (50s–60s Male) Printer and head of the Property Owners Association. Mild-mannered, diplomatic, and obsessed with moderation. Sees himself as the voice of reason and civic balance—until stability feels threatened.

  • CAPTAIN HORSTER (20s Male, trans/non-binary) A ship’s captain. Quiet, decent, and emotionally grounded. Uninterested in politics or public gamesmanship, but possesses a deeply rooted moral courage when it matters most.

  • MORTEN KIIL (60s–70s Male or Female) Thomas’s parent-in-law and owner of a tannery. Crude, funny, shrewd, and impossible to underestimate. Operates with an old-world pragmatism that cuts through everyone else’s moral posturing.

  • CITIZENS / ENSEMBLE (Various Ages) The people of the town. Workers, property owners, laborers, voters, and neighbors who collectively embody the volatility of public opinion, communal fear, and the pressures of self-preservation.
